Top 11 Games Like Factorio You Must Play Next

Games Like Factorio

So, you love Factorio and can’t get enough of it. Don’t worry, we’re in the same boat, but I’ve played so much of it that I’ve pretty much memorized the whole thing! There’s gotta be something else out there that gives you the same gameplay and experience without compromising on quality, right? The short answer: YES! The long answer? Absolutely 100% yes, and there’s more than just one. In fact, I’ve got 11 of them right here! Let’s take you through our rundown of games like Factorio.

1. Satisfactory

Satisfactory

This is a personal favorite of mine, and let me tell you why it‘s freaking awesome! Satisfactory lands you on an alien planet where you have to mine resources and start building your own factory. The focus is on automating everything as you progress in the game and build a more and more complex factory to do all your bidding for you.

What sets Satisfactory apart from anything else out there is the unique sense of satisfaction it gives to a player. Trust me; there’s nothing else like it! Something about watching your factory work its magic along the intricate and organized (or disorganized, at least in the beginning) design you’ve made is just so satisfying.

Before you know it, you’ve built a factory that shares more similarities with a metropolis than any real-world factory, stretching miles and miles in every direction, harvesting resources, and producing parts to propel you along the story! If you haven’t given this game a try yet, trust me, you’re missing out on one of the best Factorio-like games ever.

2. Hydroneer

Hydroneer

Hydroneer is a fun and quirky game where you play as a gold miner who is tasked with digging and exploring to find valuable treasures. You’ll use a variety of tools and equipment, such as a shovel, sluice box, and a hydraulic mining rig, to extract gold and other valuable minerals from the ground.

If you’re in the mood for some virtual gold panning and want to tap into your inner prospector, give Hydroneer a try! You’ll face challenges like managing your resources, navigating rugged terrain, and dealing with unpredictable water flow as you mine for riches.

The game has a simple, cartoonish art style and is known for its addictive gameplay and intuitive controls. Just watch out for that water flow; it can be a real trickster!

3. Prison Architect

Prison Architect

Prison Architect is another favorite of mine, and it compares (and contrasts) to Factorio quite well! In Factorio, you’re all about automation and production, trying to become the ultimate space-factory tycoon. In Prison Architect, you’re more of a warden-slash-CEO, managing the day-to-day operations of a prison while trying to keep everyone (including yourself) out of trouble.

Think of Prison Architect and Factorio as two sides of the same coin…or two completely different coins, actually. Factorio is like a shiny, high-tech gold coin that you spend hours building factories and optimizing production chains on an alien planet. Prison Architect is like a slightly tarnished, yet still valuable, silver coin where you run a maximum-security prison, dealing with everything from construction to riots and escapes.

This game offers a flavor of fun unlike anything out there! If you’re feeling in the mood to be an authoritarian and want to try your hand at running a prison, Prison Architect is a must-try.

4. Space Haven

Space Haven

Picture this: you’re in charge of a group of survivors on a mission to find a new home among the stars. You’re the captain of your very own spaceship, and it’s up to you to keep your crew fed, happy, and, most importantly, alive.

Enter Space Haven, the space simulation game that’s equal parts charming and challenging. You’ll explore the galaxy, recruit a cast of colorful characters (including aliens and humans with their own personalities and quirks), and deal with everything from asteroid fields to hostile aliens. It’s like being a space-faring reality TV show producer, with the added pressure of keeping your crew from dying in the vacuum of space.

But don’t worry; Space Haven has got your back (or rather, your ship) with its engaging gameplay and charming pixel art style. So, strap in, grab a snack (space rations, of course), and prepare for a wild and hilarious journey through the cosmos. Who knows, you might even find a new home among the stars!

5. RimWorld

RimWorld

Are you ready to be the leader of your very own space colony? Do you have what it takes to keep your colonists alive on a harsh, unforgiving alien world? Then RimWorld is the game for you!

RimWorld is a survival simulation that’s all about facing unpredictable challenges and making tough decisions. You’ll deal with everything from disease outbreaks to wild animal attacks, all while trying to keep your colonists happy and fed. And just when you think you’ve got it all under control, the game’s AI storytellers will throw a curveball your way with unique events and scenarios.

Think of RimWorld as a choose-your-own-adventure book, but instead of turning pages, you’re turning dials on your life support systems. It’s a wild ride, and each playthrough is a unique and unpredictable experience. So, if you’re looking for a survival game that’s equal parts challenging and hilarious, then RimWorld’s the perfect fit and more than earns its spot on this list.

6. Astroneer

Astroneer

Alright, strap on your space helmet, because it’s time to blast off into the great unknown with Astroneer! In this exciting space exploration game, you’ll play as an astronaut on a mission to discover new worlds, uncover the secrets of the universe, and have a whole lot of fun along the way.

You’ll encounter diverse environments, from barren deserts to treacherous ice fields, and must use your wits and survival skills to overcome the challenges that come your way. And if that wasn’t enough, you can even team up with your space buddies and explore the galaxy together in cooperative multiplayer mode. Oh no, that’s not all either; you’ll also be able to customize your spacecraft, build and upgrade modules, and experience a truly intergalactic adventure.

Whether you’re a team player or a lone wolf, as long as you’re ready for some space-tastic fun, you can’t go wrong with Astroneer. So, get ready to blast off and discover the wonders of its fun-filled universe!

7. Assembly Line

Assembly Line

We had you strap on your space helmet, now it’s time for your seatbelt because we’re going to be revving up the production line and building some seriously sweet rides in Assembly Line!

In this car factory simulation game, you’ll be in charge of everything from designing the sleekest sports cars to assembling them with the precision of a Swiss watch. You’ll have to balance efficiency, quality control, and cost management in order to build the best cars on the market and stay ahead of your competition.

But don’t worry; it’s not all gears and grease – Assembly Line also has a fun and engaging gameplay that will keep you entertained for hours on end. Me, I’ve been hooked ever since my first build was completed, and I’ve forgotten the difference between night and day while playing this game! If you’re a fan of car culture and enjoy the challenge of managing complex production processes, you absolutely can NOT miss out on Assembly Line.

8. Oxygen Not Included

Oxygen Not Included

Okay, back to the space helmet and suit; we’re returning to space! In this survival simulation game, you’ll have to use your wits and creativity to keep your colony of tiny space-faring creatures alive in the harsh, unforgiving environment of an asteroid.

Oxygen Not Included is considered a challenging game by some, as you’ll have to manage the colony’s resources, including food, water, and of course, the all-important oxygen. And don’t forget about environmental hazards like heat, cold, and toxic gases – those duplicants sure do love to get into trouble!

But don’t worry, despite the challenges, Oxygen Not Included is a blast to play. Each playthrough is procedurally generated, so you’ll never run out of new and exciting challenges to overcome. And with its fun and unique gameplay, you’ll be entertained for hours on end.

So, if you’re a fan of survival games and enjoy using your problem-solving skills to keep tiny creatures alive, then Oxygen Not Included is a perfect pick to play after Factorio. Get ready to blast off and save the colony!

9. OpenTTD

OpenTTD

Get ready to put on your conductor’s hat and take control of your very own train empire in OpenTTD! An open-source simulation game was certainly a first for me. Here, you’ll get to build your own transportation network and manage your trains, buses, boats, and airplanes as you try to connect cities and transport passengers and goods. With its fun and engaging gameplay, you’ll have hours of entertainment as you plan and optimize your transportation network, deal with unexpected challenges, and watch your empire grow.

Hold up for a second, though, don’t let the cute little trains fool you – OpenTTD is a deep and challenging game that will put your strategic and management skills to the test. You’ll have to balance your budget, make smart investments, and deal with unexpected events as you try to become the ultimate transportation tycoon.

That last word may have rung a bell (Rollercoaster Tycoon, anyone?) for some of you old-school gamers, and trust me when I tell you, OpenTTD will treat you to the same experience your Nintendo 64 did all those years ago.

10. Automation Empire

Automation Empire

This game takes a lot of what is good from Factorio and adds its own unique spin to it. In the world of Automation Empire, you will be the king (or queen!) of your very own automation empire!

Similar to the previous entry, your goal is to become the ultimate automation tycoon, of course! You’ll have to balance your budget, make smart investments, and deal with unexpected challenges as you try to grow your empire and dominate the market. And don’t worry; you’ll have plenty of opportunities to get creative and come up with some truly epic automated production lines.

The core gameplay here revolves around building and managing your own factories, and designing complex automated production lines that can produce all sorts of products, from toys and gadgets to more advanced tech. In my experience, the game offers a flavor of simulation that is addicting, like Satisfactory, meaning you’ll be entertained for hours on end as you plan, optimize, and improve your factories!

If that all sounds like it’s up your alley, Automation Empire is one of the best Factorio alternatives to try right now. Don’t believe me? Experience the automation for yourself!

11. Dyson Sphere Program

Dyson Sphere Program

If you’ve recognized the word “Dyson Sphere,” you’re in for an absolute treat here! For the uninitiated, a Dyson Sphere is a hypothetical megastructure that could capture and harness the energy of a star. Okay, now we’re all on the same page, we’re tasked with exploring the universe and harnessing the power of the stars!

Initially, you’ll start with just a few basic tools and resources and gradually build your way up to creating a fully-functional Dyson Sphere. You’ll explore planets, gather resources, and build factories that will produce all sorts of useful items and components. And let’s not forget the epic space battles you’ll fight as you try to defend your Dyson Sphere from alien invaders!

The gameplay is what sells the game for me, full of surprises and unexpected twists and turns all throughout. You’ll have to balance your resources, make smart investments, and deal with unexpected challenges as you try to grow your empire and unlock new technologies. And who knows, you might even discover new species and civilizations as you explore the vast universe of Dyson Sphere Program.

Alright, it seems that there are many fantastic games like Factorio that offer engaging gameplay, challenging mechanics, and hours of entertainment. From the fast-paced action of Automation Empire to the strategic simulation of OpenTTD, there’s something for everyone in this genre. Whether you’re a fan of building and managing complex factories, exploring new worlds, or engaging in epic battles, I’m sure something on this list has got you covered.

So, gather your friends, grab some snacks, and settle in for a night of gaming fun. Who knows, you might just discover your new favorite game! Here’s hoping these games bring a smile to your face and keep you entertained for as long as you can handle, just like they did for me.
